The Karlsruhe technology belt
From high-tech to high life, all in one region |
In the region between Mannheim, Stuttgart, and Strasbourg lies one of Europe's most productive regions - the Karlsruhe technology belt.
Its name says it all. There is a good reason why this area has the highest concentration of researchers in all of Europe and is known as "Germany's idea factory." For every 1,000 jobs in industry, there are 94 people working in research and development at companies and public research institutions. Over 20% of all employees here work in high-tech companies; the greatest concentrations can be found in the fields of technology, natural sciences, and computer science.
The TechnologieRegion Karlsruhe GdbR is a society that implements regional marketing activities and new kinds of regional and political cooperation. Its goal is to address the growing competition in terms of location in a Europe of different regions. Regional cooperation is based on principles of voluntary participation and interdisciplinarity. Within the framework of this society, representatives from business, science, culture, politics, and public administration work together towards the same goals. Issues of politics and marketing strategies that affect the region are handled in a sense of partnership.
Their marketing activities link the Karlsruhe region to the key ideas "high-tech" and "high life." This society of voluntary cooperation emphasizes the economic advantages in the region and pursues carefully-targeted advertising within Germany and abroad. Their objective is to present and support the diversity of life in this economic region and within the individual cities and counties.
