The field of mechanical engineering is constantly undergoing changes – a fact that is due mainly to enormous progress in the fields of electronics, computer science, and material sciences as well as to significant modifications in the methods used for planning, design, and construction.

Research and teaching at the Karlsruhe Department of Mechanical Engineering focus on energy and environmental technology, vehicle and powertrain technology, material sciences and material technology, product development and design, production technology as well as on mechatronics and microsystem technology.
