How to get to Karlsruhe

by car
From the northwest:
as described under "from the north"
From the north:
Take the A5 towards Karlsruhe/Basel and get off at the Karlsruhe – Durlach exit. Continue driving towards Karlsruhe (first exit). Follow the four-lane road until you reach the sign that says "Universität," and then turn to the right.
From the east:
Take the A8 towards Karlsruhe until you reach the Karlsruhe junction. Proceed from there towards the A5 to Frankfurt. Take the Karlsruhe – Durlach exit and continue as described under "from the north."
From the south / southwest:
Take the A5 towards Frankfurt, take the Karlsruhe – Durlach exit, and continue as described under "from the north."
If you come by car and want to drive onto the campus, please use the eastern entrance (the main entrance; see map) and ask for a permit at the gate.
by train
Leave the train station by the main exit and walk towards the streetcar stop. All of the streetcars that drive in from the left and leave to the right will take you into the city or to the university. To reach the university take the 2 to Wolfartsweier, the 3 to Heide or the S4 to Bretten/Gölshausen (oder Heilbronn). Get off at the station Kronenplatz / Universität or Durlacher Tor. by plane
from Stuttgart:
Information about the Stuttgart airport can be found here. When you arrive at the Stuttgart airport, proceed as described under "by car" or "by train." (There is a shuttle bus from the airport to the main station in downtown Stuttgart. To find a train connection, use the train schedule of the German railway and enter "Stuttgart Flughafen" (airport) or "Stuttgart Hbf" (city center) as your city of departure.)

from Frankfurt:
When you arrive at the Frankfurt airport, proceed as described under "by car" or "by train." (Some trains leave directly from the Frankfurt airport. To find a train connection, use the train schedule of the German railway and enter "Frankfurt Main Flughafen" (airport) or "Frankfurt Main Hbf" (city center) as your city of departure.
from Baden-Baden:
Information about the Badenairpark can be found here. When you arrive there, take the bus 205 direction Merkurwald, to the railway station Baden-Baden (30 min). From Baden-Baden, you take the train to Karlsruhe main station (20 min). To find a train connection, use the train schedule of the German railway. and in Karlsruhe
Karlsruhe has an excellent public transportation network. You can also get around by taxi, however. If you live in the city center, taking the streetcar is highly recommended. During regular business hours a streetcar passes by every 2 to 10 minutes. Public transportation in Karlsruhe is managed by the local transport authority, Karlsruher Verkehrsverbund (KVV), which means you can use the same kinds of tickets for all streetcars and buses.
